Starting tennis lessons for the first time? Are you not sure what you need before you head off to the court? One of the things I hear from first time tennis lesson takers is what do I need to bring to my first tennis lesson? A racquet, balls? etc. I will go over everything you'll need for your first tennis lesson in Sarasota or Siesta Key. The tennis coaches at Tennis Sarasota will help you with this. Here is a list of some items.

:

  • Equipment to bring to your first tennis lesson

  • The clothing you’ll need

  • The types of sneakers to wear

  • Miscellaneous items

  1. Tennis Racquet To start off, the number one thing that you need for your Sarasota tennis lesson is a tennis racquet. If you don't have one and you don't know what to buy yet, the easiest and cheapest route to go is to is to "demo" or borrow a racquet from a tennis shop or sporting goods store. Most shops will loan you a racquet for a nominal fee that you can try for a few days to a week depending on the store. They can also offer advice based on what level you are etc. A great tennis shop in Sarasota that I recommend to my students for racquets and stringing is Total Tennis. I've found them to be very knowledgeable and they have a quick turnaround time on stringing. You can also ask your tennis coach to borrow one on a temporary basis

  2. Tennis Sneakers Another very important item for your first tennis lesson is the type of sneakers you wear. First always wear sneakers, never shoes. Second, DO NOT use your running shoes. Running shoes do not have sufficient lateral support. They are built to go forward not side to side. Make sure you wear actual tennis sneakers. This will give your ankles the support they need so that you are much less likely to roll over on them and get injured during your Sarasota tennis lesson.

  3. Water! Do not forget to bring water/a water bottle. You will be doing a lot of moving and running on the tennis court so it's very important to stay hydrated. As a tennis instructor, I always make sure to tell new students to bring water to their adult beginner tennis lessons.

  4. Sunglasses - preferably one with some wrap and ones that fit snug on your head, so they don't come off when playing tennis.

  5. Clothing: Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. If it's cold out, dress in layers. Make sure to wear shorts or a skirt that has pockets. You will need to put balls in your pockets from time to time especially when serving.

  6. Miscellaneous: - A racquet bag to hold your racquet and other items, - A light snack. - A towel to wipe sweat off

What you don't need: Tennis Balls. Your tennis coach at Tennis Sarasota will supply these for you and he/she will have plenty.

Making sure that you have everything you need before you go to your first tennis lesson will help you to feel prepared and feel more confident and a little less anxious. Before you know it, you'll be saying, "Tennis Anyone?!" :-)
